The Homespun Storytelling Guild is excited to announce that the

Women's History Month Essay Contest

is offering an opportunity for ladies between the ages of 9 through adult to participate. In the following press release are the added age groups and extended dates:

is sponsoring a

 

WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH ESSAY CONTEST!

 

March is Women’s History Month and this year will be the 30th anniversary of the National Women’s History Project.

 The theme this year is:  WRITING WOMEN BACK INTO HISTORY. 

 

The ladies of the Homespun Storytelling Guild of Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area would like to join the NWHP

 in encouraging young women to discover stories about their mothers, grandmothers, and great grandmothers.

 The ladies of the Guild would like to sponsor an essay contest for women of all ages -

There will be three age groups;  9 - 11,  12 - 18,  and 19 and up.  A first place prize will be

awarded in each age group, with one overall winner chosen from all

the entries.

 Each entrant should write be a 250 word story on their mother, grandmother, or great – grandmother

and the challenges they faced, the accomplishments they made and the impact it has had on their lives. 

The essay contest ends March 30th and the essays will be displayed

at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area, April 1 through 8, 2010. 

 

In addition, the overall winning Essay will be published in the Elizabethton Star,

along with a photograph of all the winners.

 

The winners will be contacted on March 31st and will receive

 the book, Colonial Women, by Niki Walker.

The park is open from 8 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Saturday and

1 - 4:30 pm on Sunday.
