STORYTELLING/HISTORIC INTERPRETER SEMINAR

Sunday, April 11, 1:30 – 3:30

In this seminar, you will focus on tales from America’s past.  You will study the art of story re-enactment and how it connects our modern culture with our stories from years past.  History is not just dates and events, but rather stories that allow us to understand life as our ancestors lived.  You will learn storytelling techniques to enhance your programs, create ways to tell your stories that will bring history to life and give it warmth while practicing what you are learning.  This will be an exciting and beneficial afternoon for storytellers, re-enactors, and living history interpreters of all ages and concentrations.

The presenter, Christian Thompson, known by many as CT, is a graduate student in the storytelling program at East Tennessee State University.  He is working as an Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail intern for the 2009/2010 term.  While completing the OVTA march in September, he developed the technique for using stories for historical interpretation.   He gained an appreciation for storytelling by listening to his grandfather tell bedtime stories as a child in California.  Born in Denver, Colorado, he has lived in 10 (ten) different states from California to Florida to Maine and 17 different cities.  An avid runner, CT will complete his 5th marathon on February 21st, 2010 in Jacksonville, FL.  He frequents the beach whenever possible and enjoys boogie boarding and skimboarding.  Also, he enjoys cliff jumping during the summer.  CT returned to East Tennessee in August of 2009 to pursue his education and currently lives in Unicoi.

The Seminar is FREE - REGISTRATION is highly recommended by calling Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area at 423-543-5808
