Ranger Programs for August 21st  - September 13th

 Friday, August 21st

 

10:00 am                     Nature Walk- Take a stroll with Jason along the river and discover the natural wonders that were a part of the every day lives of the Native Americans and early settlers in the 18th century.  Meet in the Visitors Center, please wear shoes.

 

11:00 am                     Tunes Thru Time – Join Chad in the visitors center theater for a look at our musical heritage. Hear colonial tunes played on period instruments.

 

12:00 pm                    Fort Tour- Join Jason at the fort for a tour and discover the rich history of Sycamore Shoals and its role in the formation of our community and country.

 

2:00 pm                      Carter Mansion Tour- Join Jason at the oldest frame house in Tennessee for a look at this elegant frontier home.

 

Saturday, August 22nd                                   

1:30 - 3:30 pm            Long Hunter at the Fort- Meet Jason at the fort to see how the rugged woodsman survived in the wilderness!  See flintlock rifle and fire starting demonstrations as well as a variety of animal pelts and furs.

 

1:30 – 3:30 pm           Tunes at the Tavern – After visiting with Jason meet Chad in the Tavern for a glimpse into the lighter side of colonial life. See how the local tavern played an important role in the 18th century.   

  

Sunday, August 23rd

 

2:00 pm                      Carter Mansion Tour- Join Jason at the oldest frame house in Tennessee for a look at this elegant frontier home.

 

3:30 pm                      Tomahawk Throw- Come down to the fort and visit with Jason to experience a favorite pastime of the frontiersman during the Revolution.  Both kids and parents alike will enjoy this program!

  

Friday, August 28th

 

10:00 am                     Butterfly Exploration- Take a stroll with Jason down to the Butterfly Garden to discover these colorful fluttering insects!  Meet in the Visitors Center.

 

11:00 am                     Quill Pen Writing – Join Chad in the visitor center to make and write with your very own feather writing pen. Learn about the instrument that wrote the pages of history.

 

12:00 pm                    Flint and Steel Fire Starting- Come down to the fort and have fun with Jason as he shows how fire was made in the 18th century. 

 

2:00 pm                      Carter Mansion Tour- Join Jason at the oldest frame house in Tennessee for a look at this elegant frontier home.

  

Saturday, August 29th

           

1:30 pm - 3:30 pm     Soldier at the Fort- Meet Jason at the fort to experience life on the eighteenth century frontier!  See demonstrations of weapons including the flintlock musket, “swivel gun” cannon, and tomahawk.

 

1:30 – 3:30 pm           Tales from the Talbot House – Join Chad in the Talbot House at Fort Watauga to hear exciting stories about the history of Sycamore Shoals and the part it played in the formation of our community, state, and nation.

 

Sunday, August 30th

 

2:00 pm                      Carter Mansion Tour- Join Jason at the oldest frame house in Tennessee for a look at this elegant frontier home.

 

2:00 – 5:00 pm           Sunday Jam at the Carter Mansion – Open pickin’ and sharin’ session for musicians of all levels. Listeners and toe tappers are welcome too!

 

3:30 pm                      Native American Weapons- Come down to the fort and visit with Jason to see how different weapons were used by the Native Americans.  Both kids and parents will enjoy this program!

  

Friday, September 4th

 

10:00 am – 4:00 pm   Civil War Camp at the Carter- Join Union and Confederate soldiers at the Carter Mansion for this first ever, two-day event!  See demonstrations of a Civil War cannon, sample the soldiers’ food rations, and discover the history surrounding the Carter Mansion during the War Between the States.  *Free admission!!

  

Saturday, September 5th

 

10:00 am – 4:00 pm   Civil War Camp at the Carter- Don’t miss this second and last day of this special event!  Fun for the whole family!  Admission is FREE!

 

Sunday, September 6th

 

2:00 pm                      Fort Tour- Join Jason at the fort for a tour and discover the rich history of Sycamore Shoals and its role in the formation of our community and country.

2:00 pm                      Carter Mansion Tour- Join Jason at the oldest frame house in Tennessee for a look at this elegant frontier home.

 

6:30 pm                      Calling of the Clans Torchlight Ceremony-  Join us for this exciting opening ceremony to begin our annual Celtic Festival!

 

 

Saturday, September 12th

 

9:00 am – 5:00 pm     Celtic Festival- Come celebrate our Celtic heritage!  Join us for a weekend of dance, music, food, vendors, demonstrations, and reenactments of 18th and 19th Century heritage.  Clan and family societies representatives will be on hand to help with family histories.  *Reduced admission!  $5.00 per person (day pass), $15.00 weekend pass (2 days and concert)

 

6:30 pm                      Celtic Concert- Gather with us for an evening of beautiful Celtic Music.  Admission is $10.00 per person. 

 

 

Sunday, September 13th

 

9:00 am – 5:00 pm     Celtic Festival- Join us for this final day of fun and festivities celebrating our Celtic heritage!
